Subtle Racism

How a but cannot change what you said

The socially polite dance sways
until subtle racism hits the stride
stopping it in its tracks
a “but” formed on their lips
soaking into the stench
of summertime sweat.

Written in thanks to Harper Thorpe’s poem and prompt this week of “But.” Thanks to Kathy Jacobs with the Chalkboard crew (including Harper Thorpe) with their wonderful one line poetry that they feature on Medium.

Thanks so much for reading and giving me inspiration to play with! ❤
