What We Have Will Become Had

How do we escape the consequence of time?

I’m afraid what we have,

will be a consequence of had

that the experience of my lips

will become stale, brittlely made

a piece of bread left out

without your moisture

something to crumble beneath

instead of staying fortified

with the rejuvenating taste

of your kiss repeated

like lost lovers finally found

it is what it is

those ingredients

that cause an insatiable craving

ebbing to an eventual tide.
