How To Have Feminist Lines

I don’t think what she’s wearing matters

You aren’t a feminist, are you?

I’ve been asked by men,

like this may be a potential risk

they need to avoid in the

Battleship of life that I might

give you reason for flight

sink you before you even

hit my water and I pause

unsure why the trepidation

and tremor is in your voice

like this fact is something to fear

I say without question

without hesitation

“I am a feminist”

I believe women should be paid the same

that I am not the exception

but the absolution of the rule

that she should never worry about

what clothes she’s wearing

and whether she ‘deserves it’

for being out late with a skirt

and she didn’t notice your smirk

your footsteps hunting her

like a gazelle in the concrete Serengeti
